Community Blood Center (CBC) proudly presents the Red Cord Honor Program. The goal of this program is to recognize students for their desire and commitment toward providing life-saving donations and bolstering the community’s blood supply. Red Honor Cords will be awarded to qualifying seniors at participating Red Honor Cord Program high schools where, if approved by the school, they may be permitted to proudly wear them with their cap and gown.
How to Qualify for a Red Cord:
- Students 17 years of age and older (and age 16 with signed parental consent) are enrolled in the program when they register to donate blood at their participating high school blood drive.
- Students must register to donate three or more times during their high school career.
- Students can qualify by donating at their Red Cord Honor Program participating high school blood drive, any CBC community blood drive, or at any CBC branch location.
- Red Cord high schools will be recognized for participating in the program. There are two types of distinction:
- Red Cord Merit School- The high school sponsors at least one high school blood drive during the academic year.
- Red Cord Honor School- The high school sponsors two or more high school blood drives during the academic year.
As you may be aware, high school students provide approximately 10 percent of all the blood CBC collects annually in its 15-county service area. Donating blood is a volunteer opportunity and gives eligible students the chance to make what could be their first substantial contribution to the community.
The Community Blood Center sincerely thanks student donors for being such a valuable asset by providing the community with a steady blood supply for local hospitals and patients.
When your high school schedules a blood drive with CBC for the 2011-2012 academic year the school is automatically entered into the Red Cord Honor Program, unless the school chooses to opt out. To opt out of the Red Cord Honor Program please contact Cristina Pickle at 937-461-3453 or cpickle@cbccts.org.
If you have any questions about blood drive scheduling please call your local CBC representative or contact CBC Donor Relations Manager Tracy Morgan at 937-461-3450 or tmorgan@cbccts.org. She will be able to connect you with the CBC representative in your area.
Again, thank you for playing such an essential role in the health and preservation of our community’s blood supply.
Sincerely,
Cristina M. Pickle
