DAYTON, Ohio - Family and friends of the late runner and environmentalist Harold O'Connell will sponsor the third annual Harold O'Connell Memorial Blood Drive Thursday, January 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dayton Community Blood Center (CBC).
Harold O'Connell lived in New Lebanon. He was a devoted family man, environmentalist, runner and blood donor who collapsed and died of a heart attack after finishing the Tadmor 10K Road Race at the Taylorsville MetroPark in August of 2011. His family, former colleagues at the Ohio EPA district office in Dayton, and members of the Ohio River Road Runners Club celebrated his memory with the first Harold O'Connell Memorial Blood Drive in January of 2012 and sponsored the blood drive again in January 2013.
The blood drives comes during Community Blood Center's (CBC) celebration of January National Volunteer Blood Donor Month and the final week of the free CBC fleece travel blanket for everyone who registers to donate. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment at www.DonorTime.com.
