FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 4, 2008
DAYTON, OH — (Febuary 4, 2008) —Community Blood Center (CBC) and Salem Jewelers invite residents in CBC’s service area to give blood during the Salem Jewelers “Have a Heart” Blood Drive. Register to donate at any CBC blood drive or branch location February 1-14 and you will be automatically entered to win a diamond pendant and earrings (valued at $1,200). For a list of blood drives and donation centers, visit www.givingblood.org.
Blood donors are true heroes of the heart helping to save nearly five million American lives annually. While 37% of the population is eligible to donate blood, less than 10% of those who could donate actually do donate annually.
The Ohio winter weather often leads to blood shortages as hazardous roads keep donors home. CBC encourages eligible donors to give blood as often as they can in order to keep the supply at safe and adequate levels. Currently, the supply is 531 pints low. Donors with all blood types are needed daily, especially donors with O-negative, B-negative and A-positive blood at this time.
Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name. Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card. Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically. Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@cbccts.org or call 1(800)388-GIVE.
