Save our supply scholarship program EXTENDED

DAYTON, OH (April 16, 2008) — The deadline for the Save Our Supply Scholarship has been extended! Students who register to donate blood at their high school or who actively recruit others to donate can win scholarship funds, provided they apply by April 18.  The Save Our Supply (SOS) scholarship program, sponsored by Community Blood Center (CBC) and Vectren Corporation is available to high school students in CBC’s 15 county service area.  Through SOS, high school seniors have the opportunity to support CBC’s blood supply and be awarded one of five $1,000 scholarships.  This is the second year Vectren and CBC have partnered to offer a high school scholarship program. The goal is to raise awareness among high school age students about the critical need for blood donors.

To be considered, the applicant must:       

1. Submit a typed, double-spaced 300-500 word essay answering the question “As a blood drive chairperson, how would you encourage your peers to give blood?  Give us your ‘sales pitch.’”
2. Go to a high school that has a blood drive scheduled with CBC during the school year (visit www.givingblood.org for a list of blood drives)
3. Submit a letter of recommendation from a blood drive faculty member, teacher, or principal
4. Be a high school senior
5. Maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher
6. Include an official copy of high school transcript including first semester senior grades
7. Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident

A committee selected by CBC and Vectren Corporation will choose the scholarship winners.  Awards will be presented at the Senior Awards Programs at the respective high schools.  The SOS program is made possible in part by a donation from Vectren Corporation.
