Singing For Life Day Brings Music To Community Blood Center

DAYTON, OH (May 6, 2008) — Community Blood Center – Dayton will be filled with the sound of music Saturday morning, May 10. In participation with the Barbershop Harmony Society, CBC will be hosting barbershop quartets from the Miami Valley area for “Singing for Life.”  Three groups are scheduled to sing at 9:30, 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.

Singing for Life is designed to be the largest North American blood drive and donor recruitment project in history. It is timed to occur during a period when demand for blood strains supplies: May 10, a day before Mother’s Day, a week before Memorial Day Weekend in the U.S. and a week following Canada’s Victoria Day.

There are 175 chapters of the Barbershop Harmony Society participating in blood drives on May 10 across the United States and Canada, representing close to 16,000 barbershoppers who will perform, and it is estimated that as much as 15,000 pints of blood will be collected in North America

Community Blood Center is open to donors and the public from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 10.

Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name.  Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card.  Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically.  Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@cbccts.org or call 1(800)388-GIVE.
