Community blood center goes high tech, celebrates world blood donor day

DAYTON, OH (June 12, 2008) — Community Blood Center – Dayton will be celebrating World Blood Donor Day on Saturday, June 14. Countries around the globe take the day to honor those who save lives with their blood donations. Community Blood Center is open to donors and the public from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2008.

CBC is proud to announce the launching of an online appointment website, www.DonorTime.com. Blood Donors can now make their own real-time appointments online for all public blood drives and CBC branch locations at www.DonorTime.com. Appointments for business blood drives and other “closed to the public” blood drives will still need to be scheduled by contacting the blood drive chairperson or by calling 1-800-388-GIVE.

Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name.  Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card.  Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically.  Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@cbccts.org or call 1(800)388-GIVE.
