FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 2, 2007
DAYTON, OH — (July 2, 2007) The area’s blood supply is critically low (nearly 900 pints or 25%) beginning this holiday week. Community Blood Center (CBC) urges healthy individuals who have not given blood in the past two months to give blood at this time to help avert a potential community blood supply crisis. CBC has just a one day supply of key blood types on blood center shelves. Most of the existing blood inventory is currently in the hospitals, though CBC is limited in its ability to replenish hospital shelves due to the severe blood shortfall. If a major catastrophe were to occur, CBC does not have enough blood in reserve to respond.
“There are times when we can turn to other blood centers for help,” stated Jodi Minneman, chief operating officer of blood services. “It seems that no one has blood to share in the types we need right now. I want to thank those donors who have given blood recently and encourage those who have not donated in the past two months to be someone’s holiday hero…donate blood this week.”
Donors can schedule a donation appointment at one of CBC’s fixed sites in Dayton, Middletown, Richmond, Springfield or West Chester.

Donors can find information on blood drives in their area by clicking here.
The low blood supply is worrisome especially with the upcoming 4th of July holiday just two days away. All CBC locations will be closed on July 4 which will mean lower collections for the week.
Please note: CBC no longer requires donors to provide their social security number when they register to donate. Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name. Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card. Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically. Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@cbccts.org or call 1(800)388-GIVE.
