DAYTON, OH — (November 1, 2007) - The holiday shopping season is only weeks away and Community Blood Center (CBC) wants to give you $100 to launch into your seasonal gift buying! That’s why November 5-19, everyone who registers to donate blood at any CBC blood drive or branch location will be automatically entered to WIN ONE of TEN $100 dollar Visa Gift Cards! The holidays remain one of the most challenging times for the blood supply, so CBC is giving away ten $100 gift cards in an effort to boost the blood supply going into Thanksgiving week. Ten winners will be selected on November 20 in time for the traditional “Day After Thanksgiving” kickoff to the holiday shopping season. CBC must collect 350 pints of blood a day to meet the needs of area patients in the 25 hospitals located in 15 counties served by CBC. During the holidays, many donors take time off to be with family and businesses often operate with a small workforce. At the same time, most schools are on break and student donors are less available. As a result there are fewer blood drives scheduled. However, CBC reminds the community that the need for blood never takes a holiday.
Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name. Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card. Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically.
