Blood Shortages Severe This Holiday Season; Donors to Receive Long-Sleeved T-Shirt!

Blood shortages are worse this year than in past years as Community Blood Center (CBC) offers holiday blood donors a gray, long sleeved t-shirt in an effort to increase donor turnout during the month of December.  Currently, the area’s blood supply is 750+ pints low.  CBC especially needs type O blood donors, but all types are encouraged to give.

Everyone who registers to give blood at any CBC location or blood drive between December 1 and December 30, 2006 will receive a gray, long-sleeved t-shirt.  Community Blood Center invites healthy individuals who have not donated blood in the past couple of months to share their good health by donating over the holidays.

CBC has branch locations in Dayton, Middletown, Springfield, West Chester and Richmond, IN.  For directions to these centers or to find a blood drive in your area, visit www.cbccts.org or call 1-800-388-GIVE.

Please note: CBC no longer requires donors to provide their social security number when they register to donate.  Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name.  Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card.  Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically.  Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@cbccts.org or call 1-800-388-GIVE.

Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services, an independent, not-for-profit organization, is registered to ISO 9001:2000.  Community Blood Center provides blood products to 25 hospitals in the Miami (Ohio) and Whitewater (Indiana) Valleys.  For more information about Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services, visit www.cbccts.org.
