“Give A Pint (Of Blood) - Get More Than A Gallon (Of Gas)!" Holiday Blood Drive

DAYTON, OH — (December 3, 2007) - DAYTON, OH (December 3, 2007) —Being a holiday hero this December may just put some gasoline in your fuel tank!  With gas prices trending higher, Community Blood Center (CBC) is inviting area residents to give a pint of blood and receive more than a gallon of gas in return!  Donors who register to give blood at CBC blood drives and branch sites December 3 to 31 will receive a $5 gift card redeemable at Speedway and SuperAmerica service stations.

“The holidays can be a challenging time for the blood supply as we all get distracted with seasonal activities.  Plus, there are fewer blood drives because many businesses close or operate with minimal staff,” stated Andrew Keelor, donor services director.  “CBC especially needs type O- donors at this time, although donors with all blood types are needed everyday.”

CBC recommends making an appointment due to the anticipated popularity of the gift cards.  Donors can call 1-800-388-GIVE to schedule an appointment or visit www.givingblood.org to find a nearby blood drive.

Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name.  Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card.  Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically.  Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@cbccts.org or call 1(800)388-GIVE.
