Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services (CBC/CTS) has promoted Joseph Hulina to director of technical and scientific services. Nancy Lang, lead technologist of the reference laboratory, has been promoted to director of the Specialist in Blood Banking Technology (SBBT) program.
Hulina, currently the director of technical services, adds to his responsibilities the department of scientific services which includes management of five additional laboratories including the molecular, HLA, reference, microbiology and stem cell labs. Hulina now manages the component and donor testing labs as well as hospital services, the area responsible for distributing blood and blood products to CBC’s hospital customers. Hulina, who joined CBC/CTS in 1998, has dedicated his entire 30 year career to blood bank management. He has a Masters Degree in Immunohematology from the University of Health Sciences – Chicago Medical School.
“The laboratories of the scientific services department provide valuable services to the 25 hospitals served by Community Blood Center,” stated Hulina. “The medical technologists and technicians that work in these laboratories are among the best and most knowledgeable professionals in the area. I look forward to working more closely with them as we continue to provide specialized testing and unique blood products to hospital patients in need.”
Nancy Lang, who has her Masters Degree in Clinical Laboratory Education, will direct the Specialist in Blood Banking Technology (SBBT) program which is a 15-month comprehensive training program in all phases of blood banking. The SBBT program is an on-line based program with both technical and didactic components and is set up in affiliation with the
University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Lang, who joined CBC/CTS nearly 21 years ago, is also an adjunct professor at Wright State University in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program teaching immunohematology.
“I am excited to be a part of the new SBBT program at CBC/CTS,” said Lang. “I enjoy teaching and am looking forward to my new responsibilities as an educator at CBC/CTS.”
