January is National Blood Donor Month "Blood Donors Are A National Treasure"

DAYTON, OH — (December 24, 2007) — Blood donors are a national treasure and National Blood Donor Month is the time to recognize their altruism.  Blood donors save lives, nearly five million American lives annually.  In honor of its blood donors, Community Blood Center (CBC) will give everyone who registers to donate blood at any CBC blood drive or location, January 2-19, a limited edition, black t-shirt that features the slogan “Blood Donors are a National Treasure” arched over a gold coin.  CBC recommends making an appointment due to the anticipated popularity of the shirt.

The week of New Years Day is typically a slow blood donation week.  Donors are asked to visit CBC’s branch locations in Dayton, Middletown, Springfield, West Chester and Richmond, IN.  Visit www.givingblood.org or call 1-800-388-GIVE for details.  CBC especially needs type O- donors at this time although donors with all blood types are needed everyday.

Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name.  Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card.  Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically.  Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@cbccts.org or call 1(800)388-GIVE.
